Meet Niko!

Niko is one of the coolest 6 year olds there is. My family had the honor of meeting

Niko and his family through baseball. We all became fast friends. Niko’s biggest passion is baseball! He’s a Braves fan and he plays travel ball for the 7U team in our town. His nickname is Niko Chico Baseball Man, that’s how much he loves the sport!

At a double header on Sunday Niko started feeling a little funky and asked the coach to sit out a few innings. Nearing the end of the first game he came and sat with his mom and decided he still wasn’t feeling well enough to play the second game-when he says no to baseball you know something isn’t right. During the second game he fell asleep on his mom and he didn’t play with the other kids at the pizza party after the games.

That evening after Niko still wasn’t feeling great his mom and dad took him to the ER. That’s when their family’s whole life changed. Niko was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes and transferred to the children’s hospital for care. He will now have to change his life to watch everything he eats and drinks, constantly monitor his blood sugar and give himself insulin.

The medical bills are just starting. Insurance barely puts a dent in some of the drug costs and in some cases they need 2 monitors or 2 life savings pens-1 for home and 1 for school.

I’m asking because my dear friends would never ask-they would keep moving forward and quietly suffer, if you can give anything at all, please consider this. All funds raised would go to Niko’s medical expenses.
