Nikolai Hill Funeral Expense & Scholarship Fund

As you may already know, Nikolai Hill passed away this morning. He died of natural causes. He was 18.

I am Abby Thaxton, his boss at The Lucky Rabbit, but most of all, his friend. I learned so much about Nikolai while working with him. But the most important thing I learned is that there is no one in the world like him.

Nikolai was a unique, old soul. He loved everything about World War II. But his love for all things old did not stop at war history. He loved retro sodas, Edison Records, antique musical instruments, and his 1964 red Corvair. He was a perfect addition to the Lucky Rabbit.

Every day for months, he talked to me about his plans to sell items at the store, like military memorabilia and foreign things. He would talk and talk about these "plans," but I never saw a final product. I eventually said to him, "Nikolai, you need to put something together, and when you have a product to sell, I will make a place for you." Of course, we had talked about ideas for so long that I doubted if he would come up with anything to sell.

A week or two later, he came back to me with a fantastic idea. His product concept was a group of random foreign bills from all over the world packaged neatly at a set price. He meticulously worked to perfect his packaging, and he knocked it out of the park. Whenever I would start to doubt the kid, he would blow me away.  You can find his collectible, foreign bills for sale near the front register.

His mother told me that he woke up early this morning to get ready for work at our store. He was working on bringing more bills to the store this morning when he died. My heart is broken.

We loved him. Customers loved him. The staff loved him. He treated everyone with respect. And no matter how badly the day was going, he found a way to make it positive. He was inspiring, kind, and so patient. He is and will forever be irreplaceable.

If you have been to the Lucky Rabbit in the last two years, Nikolai Hill was there with a helpful hand and a smiling face. Please consider making a donation of any size in his memory. All donations will cover any funeral expenses. Extra funds will go toward a scholarship honoring Nikolai's life and ambitions.

Life is short, so be kind, like Nikolai.
