Hello all, thank you for visiting my fundraising page. My name is Nicole Brown and I am the founder and owner of Nikki's Christian Learning Center (The Center). With over twenty years in the child care industry, I have been blessed to provide care for hundreds of families in the Woodbridge, Virginia community. Due to the growth my business has experienced and the numerous families for whom I would like to continue providing quality care, I have created this fundraising page to invite others to contribute to the work my staff and I offer. With the economic instability our country has experienced over the past five years, and more recent months, Small business owners such as myself have seriously been affected and experienced some tough financial challenges.
We have recently been in negotiations with the owners of the property of which our school is currently located to decrease our current rent to a more reasonable amount. In order to do so, the owners have requested a down payment to give us a $3000 a month savings for next 2 years. In order to continue to be a blessing to our current families and the community we must meet our goal by October 31, 2013.
Consequently, The Center has set a fundraising goal of $25,000 to take care of immediate financial obligations and build up working capital for upcoming expenses. Please take time to read the following background information on myself and The Center to gain a better understanding of how valuable your contributions will be to us and the families we serve.
I started my career in the child care industry in 1988 and eventually I was blessed to start my own business. In February 1993, I was licensed to care for five children in my home and this was the beginning of Nikki's Christian Learning Center. Over the years I took various courses to sharpen my skills in the daycare profession as my goal was to move the business from home to an actual building. After completing numerous courses and certificate programs at a community college, I took a course entitled "The Next Level Business Class" at the Women's Business Center in Springfield, VA that literally did what it was designed to do"”it took my business to the next level. After finishing the course and developing a formal business plan for The Center, I transitioned the business from the home to a building facility and acquired a license from the state of Virginia to provide developmental care for up to fifty children. After about four years, I saw my business expanding even more and decided to move to a larger facility to better serve my families. The Center currently serves over 60 students with a staff of 12 people in a facility that has the capacity to hold 150 people.
The Center has evolved over the years from being more than just a daycare service to a learning center. The pre-school children at the center (including the infants) are divided into classes and are taught using the A Beka curriculum. For the school year 2011/2012, the Center also started its first kindergarten class. In addition, the Center is a part of the Garfield High School Employ Internship program. Students from Garfield High volunteer and get hands on experience as a childcare teacher and receive a grade each semester. In addition, The Center over the years has provided daycare and after-school care to families that normally would not be able to afford it. However, with the help of contributors such as yourself, families with financial challenges have been able to receive child care so they can go to work and continue to provide for their children.
