If you walk the halls, office, cafeteria or yard of PS 14 chances are you will hear a chorus of children calling out 'Ms. Nikki'! Nicole Ayrey is a celebrity in our school she is loved by students, staff and the community as a whole.
While her two children, attended PS 14 she became well known as a generous, helpful parent. Her volunteer work and amazing personality lead to her career as a school aide.
In 2021, her husband John was diagnosed with cancer. John, who jokingly refers to himself as 'Ms. Nikki's husband' is also a bit of a local celebrity. Having managed K-Mart and Party City, he is known for his quick wit and upbeat attitude. His diagnosis presented challenges for the family due to the expenses caused by treatments and medical needs. The diagnosis was particularly difficult as John has been disabled for years as a result of a heart attack and multiple surgeries, including a hip replacement.
Ms. Nikki, as she is fondly known, has dealt with her own serious medical issues, including spinal surgery all while still coming into work with a smile and a positive word for everyone. Her presence uplifts everyone's day. We were shocked when during her last visit to the hospital she was also diagnosed with cancer which is sadly in a late stage and fast spreading.
John and Nikki need help because they will both be going through treatments at the same time. Unfortunately, because of the seriousness of their cancer diagnosis and treatments they are unable to work. They need help covering transportation, rent and medical treatments. Most important to Ms. Nikki and John is their desire to make sure their children will be financially stable.
Nikki and John are more than just neighbors or workers they are family and have never hesitated to go above and beyond for anyone who needed it. Let's show them how much we appreciate their endless generosity. Please help Nikki and John focus on healing and not on finances.
