Nikia's Leukemia Journey: A Mother's Struggle

A Request from the Heart.
Dear Family, Friends, and kind supporters,

Today, I find myself in a challenging situation that I would like to share with you. September 6, 2024, I was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia. I know, crazy right. As a mom of two young boys (2 years old and 4 years old) the news was like a stab in the chest. I could not understand why this was happening. For months I struggled to process what was occurring. The constant hospitalizations, the chemo treatments, not being able to care for and be with my children. For months I contemplated the idea of giving up or continue fighting. I came to the realization that I have so much to live for and I want to fight by I cannot do it alone.

I am in a position where I must reach out and seek assistance.

After being diagnosed in September 2024, my first round of chemo began. It was strong and aggressive. I was hospitalized for 6 weeks as my body tried to recover. I was discharged from the Hospital on October 9, 2024, and readmitted October 13, 2024 (discharged October 17, 2024, and readmitted November 22, 2024, to December 4, 2024).

So far, I have undergone 3 rounds of chemotherapy, with the last round being February 25, 2025, to March 5, 2025. I am currently waiting for a bone marrow transplant, as that is the only thing that may save my life.

Being diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia has changed my life and those around me expeditiously. I haven't been able to care for myself or my children independently these past 6 months. Finding insurance to cover treatment continues to be a challenge, and the financial burden is overwhelming. This has created a significant burden physically, emotionally, and financially, and I am struggling to find my footing.

I understand that asking for financial support during this time can be difficult, and it is not something I take lightly. However, as I prepare for a bone marrow transplant, I find myself in a position where I must reach out to the community for help.

If you are in a position to help, it would be life changing. Please know that your generosity would not only alleviate my current struggles but also restore my hope and motivation to overcome this difficult time. I am incredibly grateful for your time and for any support you could offer. Your contribution will help cover medical expenses and provide support desperately needed to financially care for my children during treatment.

Thank you for considering lending a helping hand. Every little bit helps!

Warmest Regards,
Nikia Brooks

I will keep you updated on my progress.
