***Hi All, let's lift up our amazing friend/comrade/coconspirator in abundant appreciation and community support during this time of need. If you know Nijmie then you know they are *the real deal* when it comes to community organizers walking the talk. Their life is dedicated to organizing and building power with poor and dispossessed people across Pennsylvania, the U.S. and internationally. Nijmie has had breathtaking impact over their 20+ years organizing in PA, developing hundreds of clear, competent, committed and connected leaders and they walk with integrity, wisdom, humility and skill like nobody I know. I am lucky to call them a friend and colleague (Nijmie is a BRILLIANT consultant and facilitator) and I invite you to join me in giving back to someone who gives so much in their time of need***

Nijmie Zakkiyyah Dzurinko is a Black and Indigenous working class PA-based movement builder, organizer, agitator, strategist and healer dedicated to organizing poor and dispossessed people as part of an international movement to end poverty led by the poor. They have founded or led turn-arounds at a number of community organizations in Philadelphia, where they lived for over 25 years. They are a co-founder of the International Women’s Peace Service, the former Executive Director of the Philadelphia Student Union, a co-founder of the Media Mobilizing Project (now the Movement Alliance Project) and a co-founder of Put People First! PA. She is also co-chair of the PA Poor People’s Campaign: A National Call for Moral Revival and a member of the national Steering Committee. For the past 9 years, Nijmie’s political work has been completely separate from her paid work and she devotes between 20-40 hours a week of un-waged time to organizing and coordinating for the movement.
At the end of 2020, Nijmie bought a home in Central PA in order to make themselves more available to the movement by living within closer distance to all parts of the state. Due to the pandemic and work/organizing commitments, they had not fully moved into the new home. Several weeks ago a pipe burst and the damage has largely destroyed the house, and to make matters even worse the insurance company decided to deny their claim. In Nijmie's own words:
"I reported several weeks back that a pipe burst in the second floor bathroom of my new house when I wasn’t there and caused a lot of damage.
So the place had to be about 75% gutted. And insurance denied the claim. (I’m fighting it but we’ll see...) Appreciate any and all benefactors, your well wishes and prayers, and folks who have the skills to do some of this work! I will be setting up work weekends throughout the month of May. (Also cashapp $Nijmie)
Funny how while I was organizing in preparation for being able to do more organizing I didn’t pay close enough attention to my basic needs. At least it isn’t my health. Thanks universe for the thorough shaking up."
Thank you for donating anything you can to help Nijmie rebuild!
