My name is Aanakwadikwe, or Winonah, and I am the oldest sister of Niizhoodewii Dawn Denomie. On January 11, 2026, we tragically lost the life of Niizhoodewii. Niizhoodewii was an amazing Ojibwe woman who brought life and happiness wherever she went. Among many things, she loved art, drawing, spontaneous camping trips, and traveling. She was an amazing Ojibwe speaker with passions for Ojibwe language immersion. She also loved environmental studies and had ambitions to weave together a career of indigenous environmental advocacy, Ojibwe language and her artistic talents.
She was loved by so many and we are so very heartbroken by this loss. She is survived by many siblings on both sides of her family but most notably, she was a twin and spent almost every day with her twin, Niizhoodewin denomie, who has lost her second half.
This GoFundMe will aim to cover the costs of funeral and headstone costs, and whatever remains we will donate to fundraising causes she loved and supported.
