End the Nightmare in Paradise

Donation protected
My friend Jayeesha brought her parents to Puerto Rico on a 4-day trip to show them the island and people she loves, (and to help me with my move there) and it’s turned into a nightmare in paradise.

On the first day of the trip, her 82-year-old father suffered a pelvic fracture and has been hospitalized ever since.  He is currently unable to walk, or to sit for more than 2-3 minutes, and the possibility of flying home is a long ways off. Air ambulance companies require a huge out of pocket payment up front, in case insurance won’t reimburse, which isn’t an option, so it’s going to take time to figure out his transportation back to the U.S.

Both of Jayeesha's parents are retired and Jayeesha is on a self-funded "sortabbatical" so the resources for them to be in Puerto Rico indefinitely are scarce and finite. They need immediate emergency funds to cover room and board for Jayeesha and her mother as they care for Jyoti and work to solve the incredibly challenging problem of how to get him home to Denver.

Jayeesha is a longtime artist organizer living in New Orleans and has done important climate justice work in the Gulf South and Puerto Rico. Let’s get her back!

Jayeesha’s parents are both acclaimed Bengali writers with over 100 books written between the two of them. Let's get them all home!
