A Nigerien asylum seeker needs money to pay his legal fees. There is no right to an attorney in immigration proceedings, so people must find and pay for their own attorneys.
About the asylum seeker:
Mr. __ is from a small village in Niger, West Africa. He is a father, a son, and a widow. He has no formal education, does not speak English, and cannot realistically prepare his asylum case without an attorney.
Mr. __ fled to the United States to seek asylum. He currently is in ICE detention and has no way to pay for his legal fees.
Mr. __ fled to the US after he was persecuted by the government and a third party. Mr. __'s close family members were murdered or passed away this year. Additionally, Mr. __ is a survivor of torture. He is fighting for his life right now and needs your help to fund his legal case.
According to the National Immigrant Justice Center, people in immigration detention are 11 times more likely to pursue relief when they have legal counsel and are twice as likely to obtain relief than people in detention without counsel.
*All funds will be used for Mr. __'s legal defense fund. If there are any leftover funds, the remaining money will be given directly to Mr. __.
