Nigel and Carol Alderson

Nigel and Carol are an amazing couple who have shown extraordinary levels of strength, perseverance, courage, determination, and love. They have always been generous with whatever they have: their many talents, their time, their infectious positivity and life-affirming humor, and their presence. They are devoted friends. But the journey of the past seven years has taken its toll, and they need our help.

Just before Thanksgiving, 2015, Nigel’s kidneys shut down and he began receiving dialysis. On July 10 of this year, he finally received the kidney he has been waiting for since then. Nearly a month later, he has finally been taken completely off of dialysis.

During those seven years of multiple infections, surgeries and treatments, expectations and disappointments, Nigel and Carol have lost work and lost homes; battled with medical services, insurance providers, and government agencies; and accumulated mounting medical bills. And they aren’t done yet. Nigel’s new kidney will continue to require costly medicines and regular monitoring and medical attention.

We all know how difficult it can be to ask for help; to admit that we have reached the limits of our own mental, physical, material, and, at times it seems, even spiritual resources. None of us wishes to believe that, without the help of others, the struggle may defeat us. So, we are coming to you now on their behalf.

The need is significant, and we would ask you to give whatever you can. Any amount will make a difference. If each of us gives what we can, however inadequate we may feel it to be, we can all together make the difference that will allow them to stay in their home, in our communities, in our lives.
