A Truckee family needs your help. The Nieves family has lived in Truckee for over 25 years. They have 3 daughters. While Michelle Nieves will most likely be traveling to see her specialist in the next couple of months for her second spinal cord surgery for a condition she has, her husband Martin is now going through the fight of his life. Martin Nieves was diagnosed with kidney failure back in 2005 and was on dialysis for 5 months before they found out by miracle Michelle was a match for him. Michelle donated her kidney to him on May 9, 2006. The transplant was a success and Martin has been blessed for the last 8.5 years with the Gift Of Life from Michelle. Unfortunately, his body is now recognizing after all this time that he has a foreign organ in his body and is going to attack it causing rejection of the kidney. He has started Infusion Treatment that is requiring him to travel back and forth down to Sacramento 2.5 hours away at the U.C Davis Medical Center every other day for two weeks. If that treatment doesn't work he will have to do it over and over again until it stops the kidney rejection. After the first treatment ends, Home Health will come in and show them how to do treatment from home for 4 months. We can only pray that this treatment will help stop the rejection and that his kidney will keep functioning for years to come. Martin is unable to work during all of this, making it extremely financially hard on their family, as Martin makes the main source of income. They have medical insurance, but the amount of out of pocket expenses(co-payments), gas to go back and forth, and no income coming in from Martin, they have no idea how they will make it. We are asking for you to help with any amount you possibly can to help them through this difficult time. Pay it forward to someone in need.
