Laniece Lenora Moore

At the age of 15, Laniece Moore’s life was unexpectedly cut short during a service trip to Africa.  A gifted student who loved her school, Laniece was thrilled to be invited on a service to Tanzania, as it was an exciting opportunity to help less fortunate children and to learn about their fascinating culture. She documented the trip via both Facebook and personal communications with friends and family, often sharing her experiences through dance and song. Her short time there affected her in a deep and meaningful way. She wrote in a text message to her mother: “Here everyone is equal and everyone is loved equally.”

Laniece was a vibrant and inspiring person, always wanting to help others. A beautiful, creative and compassionate girl for whom laughter was an essential part of life, she was the perfect daughter, big sister, niece, cousin, and friend.

This shocking tragedy has hit our family very hard. Laniece was scheduled to return to New York on her little brother’s birthday. They had a very close and special relationship and this loss has affected him greatly, as he is crushed and left wondering why his best friend will no longer be with him.

Laniece was an inspiration not only to him, but to all of us, and we wish to honor her memory and let her light shine through us. We want to continue to inspire through Laniece’s memory because she was a Dreamer and she worked to make her Dreams a reality.
