Hey there! My name is Nikki and Im currently pregnant with mine and my fiances rainbow baby!
After years of struggling to conceive our second child, we suffered a miscarriage in February 2021. But to our surprise, we ended up getting pregnant again that same November! I am currently in my third trimester with our sweet little BOY.
Unfortunately, our 20 week anatomy scan showed something concerning. After a second scan we found out our son is diagnosed with CDH (Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia), a rare and life- threatening birth defect in which a hole in the diaphragm allows the intestines, stomach, liver and other abdominal organs to enter the chest, impairing normal lung development. His current scans show that his liver, stomach, some of his intestines and spleen are misplaced up into his chest cavity, which stunted his lung development and he won’t be able to breathe on his own after birth without intubation and surgery. This means he will need lots of intensive care after birth due to it being a life-threatening affliction and he will need plenty of time to heal. The length of time for his stay in the NICU will be unknown until he is born and can be better assessed. But as of right now he will need to be in the NICU for at least 2 months, if not more.
Ontop of that, we will be staying and birthing in San Fransico, which is almost 2 hours from where we currently live. We have to travel back and forth for the next couple months doing scans and measurements before we eventually have to stay there. Our 5 year old will be staying behind for the most part due to school, so we have to arrange child care for her which will cost us as well.
I'm creating this because we will have to stay in SF after he is born for an unknown amount of time (could be months), but we will still have rent and bills from back home, plus any traveling to be done before he is born with doctors visits and scans. We greatly appreciate every donation big or small! Every bit will go towards helping us be there for our baby and not loosing everything else in the mean time, which means more to us than we can express!
