Nicolas is a 14 year old young man that has many different medical complications, including global Cerebral Palsy and a 90+ degree scoliosis curvature in his back. Back in 2011, Nic weighed in at only 28 pounds and was about 3 feet tall, we were feeding him everything we could but he just wasnt growing. Diagnosed as "failure to thrive" we were forced to surgically implant a feeding tube into his stomach and feed him through a tube nearly 24/7. Well here we are 4 years later and he is as far from being a "failure to thrive" child as I could ever imagine. He now weighs in at a wopping ~75 lbs and has grown to be over 4 1/2 feet tall in that short time and continues to grow. His turn around has been amazing. However, with this kind of growth other problems tend to arise.............
Because of his recent growth and size, Mom and Dad now struggle everyday to get him in and out of his bed, bath, and wheel chair by physically lifting and transfering him. Mom and Dad have looked into all kinds of different lifts, hoyer, portable and non-portable, only to find that their only option that will truly work for him and his housing, is to install a portable ceiling lift, which costs in the range of $15,000 - $18,000. Knowing this would happen, Mom and Dad started fighting insurance companies and Medicaid nearly three years ago trying to get this lift. Unfortunately, the final denial from both the private insurance and Medicaid has now come through, citing that a ceiling lift is NOT a "medical necessity" for Nicolas and that "this lift is more for the caregivers and not the child".
With Dad's back issues, torn rotor cuffs, and osteoarthritis along with Mom's newly found back problems, all of which have come from lifting Nic in/out of his bed, wheelchair, bath, etc.. We now need to find a way to fund the ceiling lift for Nic. This lift will allow him to continue to be active and and keep him mobile. Will you please help???
Your donations to the Reamsbottom family will help them get the lift they so desperatly need, and your donations are greatly appreciated. Thank you and God Bless.
