Support Nicolette's Recovery

Donación protegida

Nicolette Covato is a 61 year-old mother, grandmother, and nurse. She’s a woman who has cared for others her whole life, and who encompasses the word "selfless" in its truest form. She is vivacious, funny, compassionate, caring, strong, and will go to the ends of the earth to help others.

In December 2017, Nicolette battled and beat breast cancer after a series of surgeries and hospitalizations. She is also a lifelong carrier of Polycystic Kidney Disease, a hereditary illness that killed her father and uncle. There is no cure for the disease and no way to stop the cysts from growing, destroying all working kidney cells and inflating both of her kidneys to the size of footballs.

In August 2018, after a long search, Nicolette found her donor angel and was blessed with a new kidney. Although the surgery was initially successful, Nicolette was hit with two major and life-threatening complications during her hospital stay that turned her planned 3-5 day stay into a three-week hospitalization with many additional tests and procedures that have brought the cost of her stay to nearly $30,000 out-of-pocket. Health insurance has covered some of the cost, but many expenses remain, and she is unable to return to work as planned due to the severity of her injuries.

We know how many people love our fighter, Nicolette.  We feel being honest and open with everyone is the best way to see this story through to an amazing next chapter. Only through the support of family and friends will Nicolette have the greatest odds of achieving significant and lasting health so that she can continue to care for her kids, grandkids, patients, and her 93-year-old Aunt Anita who lives in her home.

She has a long road of healing ahead, and her recovery requires as much support as our humble community can muster!  This is the reason for our campaign.  We all want Nicolette to live her best life, her strongest life, as soon as she can. Any donation, no matter how small, would mean so much to our girl and her family.

Even if you are unable to donate at this time, we ask that you share this campaign (you can copy and paste this link: www.gofundme.com/ nicolettecovato ) with your friends and community, through Facebook or email, it really does help tremendously!

We thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your love, prayers and support for our Nicolette.

A Message from Nicolette:

"I am fighting to recover not only from the kidney transplant, but am also in constant pain because of my multiple broken ribs (due to CPR), too dizzy to stand, having trouble maintaining blood pressure and fluids, and suffering from PTSD from the horror of the events that occurred during my hospital stay. I suffered a cardiac arrest from a series of mistakes that were made during a routine procedure. The cardiac arrest resulted in a direct injury to my transplanted kidney because of temporary lack of blood flow. This unfortunate cluster of mistakes in care are prolonging my absence from work, have wiped out my savings, and medical bills have skyrocketed, far exceeding what I had prepared for and beyond what I can possibly handle.

That’s why I’m putting my pride aside and asking for help. Please pass this on to friends & family. The smallest donation can help. Thank you from the bottom of my heart."
