My name is Arianne McDonald and I have the most caring wonderful friend, Nicole Schmitz. Nicole is a person that never fails to step up to help when someone has a need.  I am very sad to share that her beautiful family is going through a rough time.  She is a new mom to a 2-month-old daughter.  As she is reveling in the wonder (and facing the challenges) of being a new Mom, she has just received the painful news that her husband Mike has thyroid cancer.   He will need surgery and radiation therapy.  He won't be able to work for some time after surgery.  Nicole is planning to go back to work early from maternity leave to help with bills, if that is needed.  However, leaving Mike after his surgery alone to care for baby is a hard decision.   This family that has never asked for help, so I am. As much as they have helped others, they are now faced with hardship. Nicole and Mike could use help with basic bills such as electricity, groceries, gas, and mortgage.  They are still paying off bills from their baby's birth.  I asked permission from Nicole to do this and she expressed she doesn't like to ask for help, especially when so many people are struggling.  She does accept that anything others could spare would help.  She feels so lucky to have a new baby to help her and Mike smile during this trying time.
