Nicole's battle against Endometrial Cancer
Donation protected
In January of 2021, our mom was diagnosed with endometrial cancer (stage 2). Being physically fit and healthy and with no family history, this diagnosis came out of the blue. After surgery, chemo, and radiation treatments until August 2021, we thought she was cancer free.
However, in October 2021, she had a weird pain that wouldn’t go away no matter what. we saw her radiologist who suggested it was “normal healing and to take Tylenol for the pain”. However, things were not improving. Worried it could be more, she got a CT scan and received the devastating news that the cancer had spread through the lymph system and created a large tumour near her diaphragm.
Our mom left work in January 2022 to begin treatments. Fast forward a few weeks after undergoing chemo treatments and radiation that had no effect, we were told it was stage 4 cancer which had also spread to her liver, and without response to treatment, she was given 3 months to live.
After months of battling the tumour, and losing almost 50% of her body weight, numerous trips to the ER and extended hospital stays, she began immunotherapy treatments. These treatments have had a positive impact on the tumour and she will continue to have the treatments for as long as they are effective. While this is good news, she has been advised by her doctors to not return to work until September 2023. Employment Insurance payments ended in June and apparently Stage 4 Endometrial Cancer isn’t serious enough to qualify for government assistance programs.
We are asking for your help to get through this process without the additional stress and worry about finances. Please consider donating and as always, your thoughts and prayers are welcomed.
