Nicole Dineen Recovery

If anyone knows my sister, Nicole, you’d know she’s one of the hardest workers you’ve ever met, and she does it with a smile on her face. She’s always worked 2-4 jobs to make ends meet and to provide for her 4 kids. On July 3rd, she was in a jet ski accident. She had to get part of her thumb surgically removed and embedded into her lower abdomen for 3 weeks, so that it can heal and grow new cells. After the 3 weeks, if all goes as planned she will have surgery again to get her thumb and hand removed from her lower abdomen and begin plastic surgery to graft skin to her thumb. After those procedures she won’t have feeling in her thumb for a long time and will have to do physical therapy.
You could consider my sister a workaholic, so having limited mobility, only the use of 1 arm, and preparing for life with half a thumb has been extremely mentally challenging for her. Our opposable thumbs is what makes us human. We take them for granted and use them everyday without even thinking about it. Life going forward will be an adjustment, but she will persevere, because if you know my sister you’d also know she is a survivor.
Nicole was currently working 4 jobs. With the accident she will be out of work for a minimum of 4-6 weeks. She was already worried about how she is going to make it through with no income, but when it rains, it pours. After the couple stormy days here in the Midwest, her roof is now leaking. Today marks day 4 of 21 with having her thumb attached to her low abdomen. It will be a long road to recovery, but hopefully with some help and support from the community it will be easier. I know times are tough for most people these days with inflation, so anything you can give would be truly appreciated. If you’ve made it this far, thank you and may your day be blessed.
