On Wednesday September 1st 2021, my daughter Cailyn and I lost everything we own when flash flooding destroyed our apartment.
The water came up out of no where so fast, we barely had time to escape and get our animals out.
As some of you know, I rescue bearded dragons and any doggos, so it was horrifying to realize I had literal minutes to get my 3 dogs, 2 cats, and 3 bearded dragons out of my apartment before the water came rushing in.
My car was in the shop at the time, so I didn’t even have transportation to throw everyone into. (My car is out of the shop now and just fine.) Thankfully, my ex-boyfriend lived right down the street answered my call. I said “remember when you told me to call you if shit got real? It just got real, I need you here NOW!” And he left right then. As he was pulling onto the street that leads to my parking lot, the water had already completely covered the entire back end of the street and it was rushing towards our building. There wasn’t enough room in his car for all of us, so I told him to take my girls and my animals, get them to safety, and come back for me.
I ran inside, threw each of my dragons in their own Tupperware containers, and started fighting the water to get back outside to higher land. As I was struggling with three Tupperware containers of bearded dragons, and trying not to fall over or drop my dragons, one of my neighbors saw me and helped me get to his car, all while he was carrying his own dogs out of his apartment. We jumped into his car that was parked up on higher land, and just made it out of that lot before it was also covered with rushing water.
The aftermath… no electricity or running water for two days. All of my furniture is destroyed. Hundreds of dollars of art supplies…destroyed. My motorcycle was knocked over by the water and submerged for hours. I can’t get that to start. The mold started growing immediately. It smells like mold and straight sewage inside my apartment. My landlord called me and said my entire apartment needed to be gutted and redone. So while the renovations were happening I needed to find a place to stay for a minimum of 30 days. I have to pack up anything salvageable, and put it into the storage pods that were delivered to our parking lot and toss out everything else.
We are devastated. We just moved into that apartment 6 months ago. All of my furniture was brand new. Renters insurance isn’t covering flooding damage so not only did WE lose everything, but my neighbors that were affected by the flooding, did as well, since none of their renters insurance covers flooding either.
I know life is already so hard for so many right now, but my daughter and I would be so grateful for any help that can be given. We have to replace everything. Funds will be used to purchase the things that were destroyed in the flooding and to help with any other expenses we may incur over the next month while we are not able to stay in our apartment.
I dedicate my life to helping everyone and every animal I can. I hate to even ask for help for myself, but I’m so completely devastated by this loss, I don’t know what else to do.
Thank you for your consideration to our cause.
Here are some pictures.
This was the water rising. My bike was able to withstand the rushing water for a little bit.

My poor motorcycle!

That’s how high the water was outside my front door.
