Jordyn Lemire is a tap dancer originally from Calgary, and Nicolas Le Souchu is a filmmaker originally from Bordeaux, France. One of their first dates together was attending Innovate Vol. 4, and that night they set out a goal to create their own Innovate film…

We are so excited to announce that we have been accepted to Vol. 6 of Innovate Dance Film Showcase! As a couple we’ve been introduced to each other’s worlds before, but we’re so excited to have them collide as we collaborate on this short film together.

THE FILM

This particular piece of tap dance choreography was established during residence and presented in Jordyn’s full length concert, ‘Paying the Dues’ in Vancouver and Calgary. It will be performed as a duet, and is centred around the way relationships are impacted when one party is involved in a toxic relationship. It will capture the feeling of trying to save someone that doesn’t feel they need saving. Noticing the respect you once had for someone dissipating as they continue to accept poor treatment from another person. Loving this person through these difficult challenges anyway. Seeing how long you can hold on before you have to accept that you can’t fight people’s battles for them. Accepting that some people don’t see it as a battle at all.

MISSION

We really want to highlight that tap dance is a musical art form as much as it is visual. Tap dance has so much depth and moves people emotionally, yet isn’t seen as commonly as other commercialized dance styles. Our hope is that our portrayal of tap dance through a contemporary lens will create more spaces for tap dance to exist in both the film and commercialized world of dance.

PRESENTATION

We will be shooting at the end of July into early August, with our film being presented at the Vancouver Playhouse alongside 19 other incredible shorts on September 6th, 2026.
