Nicolas Perez Scholarship 2016
Donation protected
Nicolas Alexander Perez was full of life, love and joy. He was a friend to everyone and an inspiration to many. He fought his 3 year battle with brain cancer with love in his heart and armed with the brightest smile. He loved playing basketball on his school team and especially Sunday mornings with his father and big brother. He was the biggest New York Knicks fan and when he lost all his hair to chemotherapy and radiation wearing his Knicks caps gave him his confidence back. He also loved practicing Kung-Fu with his father and big brother. He wanted to be a Kung-Fu master like his father. Despite his disease and physical condition he regularly attended Kung-Fu class and even proudly performed at the 2014 Chinese New Year celebration at the Ying Jow Pai NY school while he was in treatment for his second recurrence.
Nicolas wanted to become a neuro-surgeon and help kids like himself and he also wanted to be a kung-fu master and teacher like his father. Although there were many things he was not able to realize in his short 13 years, there were some amazing things he did. By donating his cornea, he was able to give the gift of sight to two people. And on December 2, 2014, he was made an Honorary Knick by The Garden of Dreams and The New York Knicks. He will always be our hero.
Nicolas lost his fight against brain cancer 9/1/2014 but through this scholarship his legacy lives on. Our goal is to continue his legacy through raising awareness and providing a scholarship to the 8th grade graduating class of his middle school MS 442 Carroll Gardens School for Innovation. Although our hearts are heavy that he was not able to reach the milestone of graduating 8th grade with his class in 2015 we were proud to begin the tradition of this scholarship with the class of 2015 where we were able to award TWO scholarships with your generous support! We are happy to be offering it now in our second year for the 8th grade graduating class of 2016!
This scholarship is only open to the 8th grade graduating class of MS 442 CGSI. Entries will be an essay submitted in video format which we can share with you all. We will provide a laptop, laptop bag and gift certificate to Staples for school supplies. Please help us raise much needed funds to help these children, share our page and videos.
Many thanks,
Lisa (mom), Julio (dad) and Xavier (brother)
