Nicks Trip to D.C. & Court of Honor

Hello, Im Nicholas Bengco. A college bound 11th grader that attends Impact Academy of Arts and Technology in Hayward California. I am in the academy's upper division, and after many long merits have attained the rank of Eagle Scout. I'm currently trying to raise money for a summer trip with my history teacher and fellow students to Washington D.C. and money to fund my Eagle Court of Honor.
Now I know what some of you may be thinking as you're reading this, why go to Washington ? Well, I feel like a small fish in a small pond. I feel the need to go outside of my comfort zone and see the world- to expand my horizons. I believe that young people who go on this trip can learn new insight and create a positive difference in society! This is also going to be my last trip for the year of 2017.
The program that my teacher is working with is called Close Up, a program that works to inspire and educate young people on how a democracy works and how to better get them interested and involved. I hope that through the Close Up program, i'll develop a better perspective of how our democracy works and how to better act in support of what's right in the future.
Also, some of you may be wondering what are Eagle courts of honor? They are fully developed celebrations recognizing Scouts who have attained Scouting’s highest rank. It often features a variety of very special ceremonies commensurating the high honor of Eagle being bestowed upon outstanding young men. These young men have overcame various of obsticles, learned various of teachings and morals to achieve the highest rank!
The Eagle court of honor has been referred to as Scouting’s greatest moment. In addition to the troop’s Scouts and their families, often in attendance are a variety of special guests, including members of the local district and council, public officials, troop alumni, and adults who have had an impact on the life of the new Eagle Scout.
