On Saturday Oct 7th, Nick went on our back deck to replace a rotted handrail. When he removed the old one, the entire section of fence collapsed and he fell about 10-12 ft into the bottom of a concrete stairwell :( Luckily and amazingly he didn’t hit his head or damage any internal organs. He did land on his dominant hand, severely breaking and dislocating his wrist. I rushed him to urgent care where they said it was worse than they could handle and he would need to go to the ER immediately. We were first in line at the emergency room and due to the height of his fall, they labeled his situation acute trauma and the whole ER mobilized to treat him. He received wonderful care, spent the night in the hospital and he had surgery to repair his wrist with a metal plate, the following day. He is at home recovering now but with a broken right wrist, he won’t be able to work again until it heals, possibly up to 3 months. Unbelievably, he had a full time/salaried job offer in his field (after 9 months of unemployment) and was set to start next week. We don’t know if they will be able to postpone the start date for him or not yet. On top of all this, our insurance premiums are high and our out of pocket cost which we are expected to pay is $8,500. We are hoping the hospital will work with us to manage costs but won’t know for a while yet. We need to make it through the next couple months without too much financial stress so Nick can heal. I work 5 days a week but it just isn’t enough for the cost of living. Anything you contribute will go directly towards our immediate living expenses and hospital bills. Thank you immensely for caring about us. Renee, Nick, Dusty, Otter and Shaddy Angel
