Hi, my name is Erica. I am the spouse of Nicholas Gizzi. On the afternoon of November 20th Nick went in to have what we thought was a cyst removed from his neck/jawline. Prior to surgery they performed a scan on the area. We then found out the "cyst" was actually a mass. Over the next two days in the hospital Nick underwent extensive testing including a biopsy of the area.
On Wednesday November 22nd Nick was diagnosed with Diffuse Large B Cell Non Hodgkins Lymphoma. To say we were in shock and devastated is an understatement. He has a great team of doctors at Mercy working with him to help battle this terrible disease. While Non Hodgkins lymphoma is a very aggressive cancer the survival rate is pretty high and we have every bit of faith that Nick is going to kick cancer's as* and continue on with his life...
Nick underwent his 1st chemo treatment on his birthday December 11th. He will undergo full day chemo treatments every 3 weeks for 6 rounds. During this time he will have scans in between to track the progression of the cancer. After the 6 rounds of chemo we hope that the mass will have shrunk enough to perform surgery or even better completely shrink from the chemo. If not we may have to start some radiation on the direct area where the cancer is at.
Chemo treatments should wrap up around late March to mid April so long as he can take all his chemo treatments on the dates scheduled. Which is all dependent upon where his health is at and blood counts. We will continue to provide updates along his journey.
With all of that being said we have a long journey ahead of us emotionally and financially. While Nick is doing well now that could very well change very quickly. He will begin to lose his hair within the next several weeks and his health could decline due to the medications in chemo. He is currently working and plans to continue doing so as long as he physically can but as we know sometimes cancer has different plans.
On behalf of Nick we would appreciate any donations to help contribute to his fight with Non Hodgkins. We want everyone to know how much we love you all and appreciate your support and generosity through such a difficult time. Please keep Nick in your prayers each and every day.
