It all starts back in Nov 2021 when Nick went to the hospital for what he thought at the time was just an extreme case of stress. A chance X-ray revealed damage to his lungs. After further evaluation, Nick was eventually given the diagnosis of Interstitial Lung Disease, a progressive lung disease for which there is no cure.
Nick was able to live a normal life for much of the past two years but the progression and reality of the disease have become harder to ignore. At this point, Nick is down to less than 25% lung function and requires the use of supplemental oxygen around the clock. He is unable to walk long distances or complete even simple tasks without getting desperately winded. His pulmonology team is recommending an immediate double lung transplant as they believe he is one minor illness away from catastrophic, potentially fatal consequences
Nick lives with his primary caretaker, his wife Ashley, and their three children (Aurora, 4mo; Leo, 3; Lily, 5). They remain his main motivation to fight for a transplant and succeed in the long recovery process. A double lung transplant requires two to four weeks in the hospital and then several months of rehabilitation and daily doctor’s appointments. Nick and Ashley will be required to relocate to Jacksonville, and Nick will be forced to miss several months of work while he recovers.
Nick and his family are asking for your support as they have exhausted all of their savings and resources in the long fight of hospitalizations that have led us to this point. Any money received will be used solely for the costs to support this transplant.
