This is something I never wanted to do. Please know that we are only creating this fundraiser for those who really want to help out and we have no expectations from any of you!
We are ALL as a society going through a lot right now and funds for everyone are very tight. Please only give if you really want to and have the means!
If you can't give, we appreciate your positive thoughts and prayers!
As many of you know, our pup Nicki has been diagnosed with Lymphoma and we are pursuing Chemotherapy. This was not an easy decision - it is very expensive and will only extend his life, not cure the cancer.
After some long conversations with our Vet and our Oncologist we feel this is the right choice for Nicki, as he is only 9 and is otherwise in good health!
With Chemotherapy Nicki has a chance to live for up to 2 more years of a good, quality life in remission.
That's what we want to give Nicki - the best quality of life for the longest possible time.
We were initially hesitant to accept any funds as pet ownership and cancer treatment are choices that we made.
This changed for two reasons:
1. Some of you really love us and Nicki and really want to help. We love and appreciate you for this and will gladly accept your help on Nicki's behalf.
2. Nicki now has to have the highest dose of Chemotherapy each session due to some resistance to the initial treatments. Higher doses do come at higher costs and additional prescriptions that are needed to manage side effects.
The Cost:
Our estimated total for the full 19 weeks of treatments is between $10,000-$13,000.
Nicki receives treatments every week. The first 4 weeks alone of Nicki's diagnosis and treatments cost us around $4,200. --Which is a number we weren't prepared for.
As the weeks go by we will change or reduce the goal if anything changes with Nicki's treatment.
Final Thoughts:
I know this seems like a lot of money for maybe less than a full year of a good life for our pup, but when I adopted Nicki I made him a promise. I promised him that I would do whatever it took to give him the best and fullest life possible.
Nicki has given me his whole heart and soul these last 9 years. He filled a hug hole in my heart and has made me feel an enormous amount of love every single day. It's my turn to give him that love right back!
We love and appreciate anyone reading this and are grateful for anything you can give- even if it's just a kind word or thought.
Please know if you give us funds that we do not end up using, due to Nicki's prognosis changing they will be donated.
All remaining funds will be donated in an even split to Fetch-a-Cure to help pet parents manage cancer expenses or to Lost Dog and Cat Rescue Foundation to help treat the many animals they take in that have medical conditions.
Every single penny of this fundraiser will go to an animal in need.
Thank you,
Nicki's Family - Caitlin, James, and Momo
