Nick's Fight
Donation protected
This gofundme account has been set up for Nick Henry by his friends and family. Anyone who knows Nick knows that he is too humble to ask for any kind of assistance, even if it is really needed. This is why we decided to intervene and tell you a little about what has been going on with Nick. As many of you may already know, Nick was diagnosed with a rare kidney disease called Focal Segmental Glomerulosclerosis (FSGS) in 2013. The disease soon damaged Nick's kidneys beyond repair and they both had to be removed. From there, Nick went on dialysis until his identical twin Nate graciously donated a kidney to him. Thankfully, Nate was a perfect match and the transplant was successful.
This is where things get confusing. Although Nick's body accepted Nate's kidney, the disease returned in the healthy kidney shortly after the surgery. As soon as it was confirmed that the disease had returned in the new kidney, doctors started aggressively treating Nick. Throughout the past several months Nick has driven to Shreveport 3 times a week for different treatments, including something called Plasmapheresis (which is a long, exhausting process). Although Nick remains positive and has high spirits, his struggle is real. Headaches, excessive swelling, exhaustion and susceptibility to other illnesses are just a few of the smaller battles he has been facing. Nick is in a day-to-day battle with saving this kidney. Currently, Nick is in Chicago seeing a FSGS specialist, Dr. Reiser. He will be testing Nick and Nate's blood to determine what other treatments or options Nick might have.
What are we asking of you? First and foremost we are asking for your prayers and/or positive thoughts. Specifically, pray for Nick's new kidney to be saved and healed from this disease. We believe that through God ALL things are possible (Mark 10:27). The more that you spread Nick's story the more prayers he will get. The next thing we are asking for is your financial support. This assistance will be used in Nick's travel to and from Shreveport and the occasional hotel he may have to get when he is feeling too bad to drive home. It is estimated that Nick may have to travel to and from Shreveport for the next year. This will add up quickly. Those who care about Nick already see the financial burden it is putting on him, that is why we are trying to lighten his load!! Some of you may ask why Nick doesn't move to Shreveport since that is where he has to get treatment. Well the answer is simple... Nick's family and support system is in West Monroe. He needs them to take care of him on the days when he isn't feeling well.
Lastly, (and this just shows what an amazing person Nick is) Nick has promised to donate any money not used for his medical travel expenses to ARCO or PAWS. Both of these organizations are special to Nick. Thank you for reading Nick's story, and again PLEASE share and pray!
