On July 15, one day after his 32nd birthday, Nicholas Ederer passed away leaving behind a devastated new bride and their precious 9-month-old son. 
Kristen Bonner Ederer was by Nick's side, caring for him and praying with him every day for three years while he waited for a heart transplant. 
After being admitted to UAB hospital for complications from a blood infection, Nick underwent emergency open heart surgery on July 11 to replace the LVAD pump that had been keeping him alive since 2013. He suffered a stroke during surgery and slipped into coma. The doctors declared Nick brain dead and after three heartwrenching days the family made the decision to remove life support and say goodbye to their husband, father, son, brother and friend.


There are not words to express the depth of Kristen's anguish at losing her life partner just as their life together was beginning. On their one year wedding anniversery, Kristen left this message on her husband's Facebook page: 

"I can't believe we got married a year ago!! Feels like time is moving in fast forward x 1000. He's my heart, my best friend, and I am so proud and thankful for him and our new family. Love you Nick Nick :)"

Friends and family are invited to honor Nick during a visitation on Wednesday, July 20, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Mobile Memorial Gardens, or at the service on Thursday, July 21, at 11 a.m. at St. Dominic's Church.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to Nick's wife and son, who are now facing an uncertain future as they try to get back on their feet and begin the long process of healing.
