Hi, my name is Nick. I’ve moved twice in the past year. The first time was to move out of my roommates house in East Oakland because my roommate was being explosive and abusive. The second time it was because my brother I was living with—was being explosive and abusive. I’m moving again because my current housemates want to have guests over, in the middle of a global pandemic, even though I’ve stated previously multiple times that this makes me uncomfortable. I am also moving because I live too close to my past abuser to adequately heal from that situation. I am also moving because I noticed one of my roommates may have abusive tendencies because of the following....
After expressing my frustration with my roomies asking if guests can be over (after months of no one INSIDE OUR HOME BC OF COVID), as well as asking my roommates in our group chat to stop slamming the door to our house because I have PTSD, one of my roommates repeatedly slammed our front door. They did this on purpose, multiple times within the hour. I just got out the psych ward a few weeks ago, I don’t need this. I have PTSD from past abuse...these two actions are specific triggers for me, I have no savings, and my roommates and our relationship will continue to be strained as I stay here because clearly....
having people over despite us being a six person household who is already at risk of giving COVID to each other is not a concern! Also I have no savings or safety net. So I decided to launch this fundraiser. I’m an artist and have been collecting funds from strangers for a few months now via Instagram to keep me afloat and create art. But right now, in the house I’m living in, I pay the least rent (this was also a justification made to me for why my Roomies should have people over).
However, the money I make for my Art has not been enough and I hope this fundraiser can help me secure a place and get by for the next few months. I hope to raise at least 3k in the next two-three weeks so I can move as soon as December or mid-December. Thanks in advance.
