Nick's Motorcycle accident on RT80
Donation protected
On May 15, Nick was on his way home on Route 80 near Allamuchy Township. He was driving in the right lane with a flatbed 18 wheeler in front of him. As Nick went to pass the truck in the middle lane, the truck suddenly cut in front of him and Nick could not stop in time causing him to crash into the back of the tractor trailer. The truck kept on going and never stopped, leaving Nick bleeding on the side of the road. Thankfully, several motorists stopped and called 911 to get him help.
Nick was taken to Morristown Medical Center, which is a level 1 trama center. He was intubated and kept under sedation for 4 days while surgeons performed several procedures on his face, hands and leg. He suffered a concussion, fractured forehead, broken nose, face lacerations, broken fingers and wrist and double fractures on his leg.
He was wearing full protective gear, which doctors said most likely saved his life. Doctors estimate a 4-6 month recovery period, including rehabilitation therapy.
The first of many bills we expect to receive was for the ambulance that took him to the hospital which is over $8,000. Hard to believe, but it is what it is. We can only imagine what the costs of staying in the ICU and other hospital charges will be for a week he spent there plus another week at Keesler Rehabilition Institute.
Normally, these costs would be covered under his vehicle insurance, but it turns out that NJ does not require PIP (Personal Injury Protection) on motorcycle insurance, which is mandatory for automobile insurance. Interestingly enough, they don't bother to mention that to you when you apply for motorcycle insurance, so Nick does not have PIP which would have covered most of his medical costs.
With Nick looking at a long recovery period, his is understandably concerned with both his health and financial concerns. So, any contribution will be greatly appreciated and will help him to get back on track with his life.
Thank you in advance for your help and understanding.
