Nick’s Fight
We have humbly created this Gofundme page asking for financial help for Nick Flaherty as he begins his battle against T-lymphonblastic Lymphoma/Leukemia. So many of you have asked how you can help and here is a way you can.
On April 9th, 2018 Nick and his family received the devastating news that Nick had been diagnosed with T-lymphoblastic Lymphoma/Leukemia. This is a very aggressive type of blood and bone marrow cancer. It is a common type of cancer found in children and young adults.
This cancer is treated in many separate phases. The first phase, induction therapy, can last a month or more in the hospital. This phase is treated with chemotherapy and other drugs. The next phases of treatment can unfortunately take up to 3 years. Those years will consist of monthly visits to the hospital and more chemotherapy.
At this point it is not 100% certain, but Nick will most likely have to undergo a bone marrow transplant. Nick’s doctor has said that his treatment can be successful but he has a very long road ahead of him. The most intense part of this road being the first 6 months.
Nick started his first round of chemo on April 12th 2018. He has a great doctor and is being cared for at one of the best Lymphoma/Leukemia hospitals in Southern California. At this point the Flaherty family is fortunate enough that their insurance will cover a majority of the medical costs. However, the future is not clear as to what treatments will be covered by insurance, and that being said, bone marrow transplants are not typically fully covered. The costs and coverage of treatment can be very unpredictable and therefore very frightening for them to think about.
Nick and the Flaherty family want to thank everyone for their thoughtfulness, generosity and kindness. They will never be able to repay everyone for their prayers, kind and comforting words, and all the help that has been given. Asking for donations is extremely difficult for them. But because of the financial uncertainty of Nicks treatment over the next few years, they do very humbly ask for your help in covering the costs of the battle they are fighting with Nick.
Thank you
