Nick's Battle Against Cancer "Round 7"
Donation protected
Just a regular boy growing up in Brooklyn, NY, hanging out with my friends, playing ball, going to school and just having fun. Then, suddenly, at the age of 16, my world changed forever.
A little background of my 3-decade fight against cancer.
1987- Diagnosed with Ewings sarcoma.
Treated with Chemo and surgery
1989- Diagnosed with Lymphoma.
They were able to harvest my own marrow and completed treatment in 1990.
But unfortunately, I relapse 6 months later.
Mid-1990 - Diagnosis of Lymphoma and Leukemia Relapse
I was lucky enough my brother was a 100% donor match.
1991- We did and started a stem cell marrow transplant and chemo using my brother's marrow.
1993-1994- I went to remission. Till this day, the Stem cell is strong and well :)
2008- Diagnosed with Basal Cell Carcinoma of the chest.
Curettage and electrodesiccation
2008- Discovered squamous cell carcinoma of the ear and temporal bone.
Had Surgery / Chemo / Radiation
Completely lost hearing in my right ear from the treatment.
2014- Had A Surgically Implanted BAHA Hearing Aid which was able to restore some my hearing.
2016- Basal cell carcinoma of the scalp, thankfully, this one only required surgery.
2018/2019- Diagnosed squamous cell carcinoma of the tongue and larynx.
Currently Undergoing Chemo / Radiation
For 31 years I’ve been fighting this horrible disease In One Word called “cancer”.
Through all the years, after all the treatments, after needing shoulder reconstruction, knee, and hip replacements and adapting to the loss of hearing in the right ear, I feel this recent diagnosis is going to be the most difficult yet. The treatment is precise but it will affect my ability to eat, drink, swallow and speak. The recovery will be a long struggle as I will have to learn how to do everything over again, but superimposed on that, I have the added stress of not being able to work for an extended period of time during the recovery. I have fought to overcome some very difficult obstacles in my life and I count my blessing for each one. I have never asked for any help but I am going to need financial help to assist with treatments and not being able to work so I can concentrate on my recovery while I am fighting this horrible disease again.
Unfortunately, for the 7th time.
Any amount is greatly appreciated.
