In the dictionary, the definition of compassion states to have pity and concern for the suffering and misfortunes of others. But to me, Nicks sister Jolene, true compassion means not only feeling another's pain, but also being moved to help relieve it. Nick's medical journey began on October 3rd when he went hunting like he has so many other times before. After sitting in his tree stand for hours, he stood up to lower his bow and the stand broke away from the tree and he fell 25 feet to the ground. Nick landed mainly on his face and right side of his body, crushing his face, pelvis and ankles. Even though our Lord and Savior spared his life that night, Nick has had a rough road to recovery. He got transferred to U of M that night and spent 10 days in trauma ICU. He under went a surgery to fix his crushed ankle and then an 8 hour surgery to fix his face. Just when things started looking up for him, he got the devastating news that his jaw surgery has failed. Nick will undergo a complete lower face reconstruction on Tuesday, adding to his already astronomical medical bills. I know times are hard for all of us right now. Never before has our family asked for or needed help. Nick and Emily, along with their two little girls, will be faced with a lifetime of medical bills as their insurance only covers a portion of the costs. Every little bit will make a difference to their lives as Nick focuses on his long road to recovery. I ask this humbly of all of our friends and loved ones. Thank you all and God Bless.
