Nick Soper fighting stage 4 Brain Cancer
Spende geschützt
Nick Soper is 35 years old, born and raised in Baltimore, Ohio. He was married to the love of his life in 2010 and had a beautiful daughter Mayah who is now 7 years old. In 2013 Nick started going blind sporadically through the day for minutes at a time. He immediately got checked out and was diagnosed with Stage 4 Glioblastoma Brain Cancer that has an average life expectancy of 13.8 months. Within the same month he had Brain Surgery at the Ohio University Medical Center to remove the tumor. He began his treatment shortly after which consisted of 6 weeks of radiation, and 2 years worth of high dosage Temozolomide.
About a year later Nicks wife was given a job offer in Oklahoma that they couldn't refuse. Medical bills were not going to stop and Nick took this opportunity to become closer with his wife and little girl. They started their life in Oklahoma and Nick had gotten past the 13.8 months! But sadly over the next few years Nick and his wife grew apart and they divorced in late 2017. Nick was heartbroken and soon it only got worse and the rollercoaster only just began.
In January of 2018 another tumor was found in Nicks brain. He began a clinical trial that had its ups and downs but just a few short months later, the tumor was gone! In October of 2018, two new tumors were found in Nicks Brain when they did an MRI while still on the clinical trial. They immediately stopped the trial.
Nick was given 3 choices.
Surgery, radiation, and 3 types of chemo.
Radiation, chemo, and no surgery.
Or opt out off the above and he would be given a short 3-4 months left to live.
The surgery had a high chance of putting Nick into a vegetated state because of the location of one of the tumors. So he went with option two.
I have had the pleasure of being one of Nicks Managers at a restaurant he serves at. He is one of the most charismatic human beings I have ever met in my life. Through all of this his hopes are just to simply catch up on medical bills because he doesn't want to owe money to the place filled with the amazing staff that saved his life once. He wants to give his daughter a memorable birthday which is in a few short weeks and a Christmas she wont forget. She is all he has here.
Nick is currently in a lot of pain and is still awaiting radiation. The swelling in his brain has made it near impossible to serve tables with a smile on his face. Somehow, he manages to do it...because he has to. Nick has been with us at the restaurant for less than 2 years. But the impact he has had on each of our lives is indescribable. I am truly not sure how a human being can go through what he is going through but still makes sure to make the people around him laugh. He brightens the room when he is there. He makes sure that he takes care of his guest and they always leave happier than when they walked in the door. He has a presence about him, and without the huge scar that goes across his head you would never know that he is fighting a battle that most of us wouldn't have the strength to get through.
