Nick Lawson's Recovery Fund

Donation protected
My brother, and friend to many, Nick Lawson was injured in a motorcycle accident on March 26th, when another, uninsured, motorist made a left-hand turn in front of him.

The information regarding the accident can be found here.  Nick did not have time to stop or make an evasive maneuver, and subsequently, Nick was ejected from his motorcycle and sustained several injuries. We are still working to gather all possible information from the Aurora Police Department.

(Update) – I spoke with Aurora PD's accident investigation team March 31st at 1:10PM. They informed me of the other motorists information and the fact that the motorist is UNINSURED, which is very disconcerting to our family. The Officer said it will take up to 2 weeks to complete their investigation, due to the fact that they are doing a full reconstruction, because of the severity of Nick's injuries. They said they have photographs and plenty of data, which we should be able to receive once the investigation is complete.

Nick, was immediately transported to Medical Center of Aurora South Hospital's Emergency Room, and he has since been in critical care at the ICU unit of the hospital.

Nick in the ICU, approx. 12 hrs after the accident.

Nick sustained several facial fractures, two burst fractures in his spine at T3 and T5, a broken right clavicle, a broken left wrist & hand, and has suffered severe head trauma.

Fortunately, for our family and friends, Nick is alive and survived a critical 72hr period, where his brain could have sporadically and fatally swelled or hemorrhaged.
However, Nick has several injuries and a long road to recovery.
Nick wrote " ice water" when briefly taken off sedation – His throat hurt due to the ventilator and other tubes in his throat.

He is only 21, so he has age on his side. However, Nick has limited financial support or resources – his biological father and mother are not in his life and are in no condition to provide support. He, thankfully, qualifies for Medicaid, which will pay for most of his immediate medical bills, but at this point, we are not sure if he will qualify for other forms of assistance to support him through his recovery period, until he can go back to work.

Nick had been working part-time, making $11 an hour, at Deby's Gluten Free Bakery but was in-between jobs at the time of the accident.

We are making this GoFundMe page in hopes of raising funds to support Nick through his recovery. The money will go to support Nick's housing, uncovered medical expenses, transportation, and physical, speech, and occupational therapy treatments. No amount is too small, and any and all types of support are welcome. If you have the ability and wish to provide support in other ways, please contact us.

Our small family has never had to go through something like this. If any of you have and have guidance or information that you think would be useful to our family, as we try and position Nick for the best and fullest recovery, please do not hesitate to provide that information or guidance.

We will be doing our best to ensure Nick has the support he needs to return to living a young, vital, and vibrant life, and every dime you contribute to that cause will go a long way to helping make Nick's recovery as smooth as possible.

(Updates)– Nick had surgery on his clavicle on April 2nd (pictured below). He has two surgeries left, one major and one semi-minor. His facial reconstructive surgery is slated to be done either tomorrow April 3rd or Tuesday April 4th. His wrist surgery should be approx. a week from now.

Biker Down, a Colorado non-profit organization, has offered their support with Nick's accident. For that, we are extremely grateful. Fortunately and Unfortunately, they deal with this type of situation often, and they have the knowledge and resources to sherpa us through this process.

April 4th–
Nick had facial surgery today to repair his broken jaw, nose, and left cheek bone. The operation went extremely well! Nick will be on the ventilator for one more evening and then he will be breathing on his own tomorrow. We hope that he will be able to communicate rather quickly and the neurologist will be able to do a more extensive evaluation of his brain trauma and cognitive ability.

Nick's hand surgery is scheduled for Thursday, which will be his final surgery. We hope to know more about his overall condition and when he will be able to go home, in the coming days.

Nick post operation. Hoping the scars won't be so visible when he fully heals.
