Help Nick Krause Heal After Hit-and-Run Accident

Donation protected
On the evening of Tuesday, May 27th, my brother Nick Krause was on his motorcycle, just minutes from home, when his life was changed in an instant. A drunk driver crossed into his lane and hit him head-on, throwing him from his motorcycle into the middle of the road. The driver then fled the scene, dragging Nick’s custom-built 1981 Yamaha under his vehicle all the way to his home, where he attempted to hide it in his garage.

Nick was rushed to the hospital that night and had surgery to clean and close the wound to his knee, he remained there for 6 days before being transferred to a rehabilitation facility, where he spent an additional 5 days. He has since returned home, but his recovery journey is only just beginning.

Nick suffered extensive injuries. He was covered in road rash, sustained a fractured tibia (broken in two places), severe femur cartilage damage, and catastrophic trauma to his left knee. Surgeons were only able to save one-third of his kneecap. The damage was so severe that a full knee replacement is required — but that can’t happen until his leg fully heals. For now, he must remain non-weight-bearing for at least another 6 weeks, possibly longer, until his next doctors visit. As of today, he’s had over 55 staples removed and was fitted with a support boot to stabilize his fractured tibia, along with the knee brace, as he cannot put any weight on the leg.

Doctors have told us this is a life-altering injury. It will take months of healing, physical therapy, and eventually the total knee replacement surgery and even then, he may never regain full range of motion in his knee.

Nick is only 29 years old. He’s always been active, outdoorsy, and hardworking. He spent years in construction and more recently has been working in security systems — a physically demanding job he may never be able to return to. On top of the physical and emotional toll, this accident has put serious strain on his ability to support himself during recovery.

We’re asking for your help to ease some of that burden so Nick can focus on what matters most — healing and rebuilding his life.

Funds raised will go toward:

Any expenses not covered by insurance

Lost income while he is unable to work

Physical therapy and rehabilitation

Basic living costs during his long recovery

This injury has stolen a lot from Nick — including the custom motorcycle he spent over two years and $9,000 building, which is now completely totaled. He hadn’t even gotten the chance to have it painted yet.

Please consider donating or sharing this campaign. Every bit helps, and we are so grateful for your support during this incredibly difficult time.

Thank you,
Nick's Family
