Nick Farr's Medical Treatment

Donation protected
Hello, I'm Elisabeth Johnson, a friend of Nick and Laura Farr's from Johnson University.  I currently live in TN, and was a missionary in Japan for the past 6 years.  Nick and Laura were the main people who got me started in ministry, so when I heard that Nick was sick I wanted to do something to help.

Nick and Laura Farr, along with their two beautiful girls have been stuck in a hospital in CA (7 hours from their home and ministry in AZ) since Thursday of last week. On Wednesday October 12, Nick started feeling sick. He had a fever of 103.8, became light headed, started vomiting and almost passed out. That is when Nick's wife and father rushed him to the ER.

For most of us, we can drink fluids and rest, but Nick has had 4 heart surgeries, and is at high risk for infections. So, any time his health suffers, there is cause for concern. At the ER, the doctors started running tests for everything, including Malaria and Zika (due to a recent mission trip to Ecuador). After a couple of days, they have found that Nick has had strep in his blood for a couple of months. He had been running a fever for quite some time and his regular doctors could not find out the source. They had no idea that this infection was in his blood stream, and therefore the strep had been pumping through his heart for several weeks. They have determined that this is the main reason for his fever and sickness. After 3 days of constant testing, they have diagnosed Nick with Endocarditis (infection of strep in his blood and heart).

The doctors have told Nick that he will have to be on a strong cocktail of IV antibiotics for 6-weeks. They will be putting a central line in his body so that Nick can leave the hospital in CA and still receive his medication.

My prayer is that the money raised by their friends and family will go towards their unexpected medical expenses. Nick, along with his wife Laura, will have to fly back to AZ so that he can receive his next dosage on time. Traveling by car will take too long in between dosages. This leaves his parents (from TN), to take their car back to AZ, with the children. His father will fly out Tuesday from AZ to return to work in TN. Nick's mother will change her departure date so she can stay in AZ and help with Nick's recovery. The doctors believe that once back in AZ, there is a high chance that Nick will have to have open-heart surgery to repair the damage caused by this illness to his heart valves. We're praying this isn't the case and medication alone with fix this.

This family means so much to me and so many others. Nick is a pastor at Pantano Christian Church in Tuscon, AZ. He has been in ministry and ongoing mission work for the past 13 years, 11 of those years in full-time ministry. Nick and his wife Laura, are not only my best friends from Johnson Univeristy, they are also the ones who got me connected to the mission field and ministry. They are constantly investing their love and time in others and my prayer is that their community can come alongside them and help during this time.  Thank you for your donations.
