My name's Jessica and I'm Nick & Lucy Della Valle's Goddaughter.
On the longest night of 2021 Nick found himself in a hospital bed. He must have had a good, long talk with God that night because they both decided it was time for Nick to leave his Earth Body and move on to his next great adventure.
And boy does Nick love an adventure! Did you know he walked across the U.S.A multiple times spreading the word of God. He adventured to every baseball stadium in the country with his sons. When he was younger he drove the Oscar Meyer Hotdog Weiner mobile all over the country! His courage to live a phenomenal life is one of the greatest gifts he left me. Nick was the person who taught me how to do, and live, brave scary things, entirely on faith--with a belief in the good of God and humanity.
I know lots of you are sad, and 95% of you feel like Nick was your very best friend--because he had that amazing ability to look you in the eye and really listen to you all the way down to your heart. I'm sad too, but I can't be entirely. Because I know right now Nick is experiencing a miracle, and LOVING every second of it!
He's seeing all the magic of existence from the most spectacular view. He's loving every single thing, and he's so excited and wants to share it with everyone. He's watching me write this, reading over my shoulder, and he's so happy I get it. He sees me crying (and wants to give me a hug, because HUGS were his jam) and sees my cat taking a bath on the bed in the sunshine spilling through the window now that the days are once again getting longer. He tastes my tea and thinks it should be coffee, because I think his blood was really coffee with how much he drank it.
I didn't have to be in the hospital room to know that the hardest decision Nick made in that hospital bed, was the decision to leave his wife, Lucy. Because if you want to see a real life love story all you had to see how was how he looked at her.
And my heart breaks for Lucy and I wonder what comes next for all of us. But as I sit here seemingly watching the world disintegrate around me, I just feel peace.
Peace because I know Nick is getting ready to take care of Lucy once again. Peace because the biggest adventurer I know is about to do something miraculous yet again. Peace because all the people who love Nick & Lucy are about to show it through this fundraiser.
I want to raise money to cover Nick's funeral expenses, relocate Lucy to a more accommodating apartment, and pay any medical bills that show up in Lucy's mailbox. All funds will be directly used to pay expenses and Lucy will manage them.
I also want stories of Nick's adventures in the comments.
But mostly I want you to know what Nick is telling me to tell you. Jesus loves you. Through Christ all things are possible, and love is going to get us to where we need to be next.
Thank you for helping my Godmother through this next part of her life. I appreciate you, and so do Lucy & Nick.
