Nicholas first became sick in February 2020. After 7 months of numerous test , 2 bone marrow and tons of blood work and blood transfusions the doctors had an answer. September 28, 2020 Nicholas was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia B-cell. September 29 he arrived at Dana Farber cancer center and admitted into Brigham and Women’s hospital. There he spent 30 days under going treatments. Once nick was released he began his weekly chemo treatments. As well as many blood and platelet transfusions. His treatment plan has 6 phases. He has only completed 2 . Nicholas has developed severe diabetes and liver issues as a side effect from the chemo. Not to mention the nausea and exhaustion that comes with it.
In late February Nicholas had to be hospitalized for 16 days. The treatments had taken a toll and his body couldn’t fight anymore. This was a huge setback on beginning the next phase of treatments. 15 weeks later he started treatment again. 1 week in he has lost over 10 pounds , he is severely diabetic and his platelets are to low to continue treatments.
Nicholas has over 3 years of chemo treatments ahead of him.
