Nicholas's Health Fund
Dear family and friends. As most of you are aware, my son Nicholas has autism and down syndrome. over the years, he has suffered from a variety of sicknesses and challenges in his young life. He has had problems communicating with us and his peers. After an extensive communication therapy and that is still going on today, he still struggles with communication in his young life. As most of you are aware, Nicholas has started getting irritable due to sensory problems, puberty issues and is causing him to be aggressive and in attack mode toward us, his parents. On five occasions, he has displayed aggression during the holidays. He has tried to break things in the home and attacked both my wife and me a number of times to the point where he needed to be restrained.
The photo we are using for the campaign is when we had to place Nicholas in a jacket backwards with the opening of the hands tied off with zip ties so we can drive all the way to childrens hospital without him attacking us on the drive. The above photo is the first night on the 27th at laqngley hospital. He needed to be restrained at the emergencey as well. We have scratches and bruse oll over. We needed to call the police and ambulance the first time it happened on dec 27th. The 29th and the 30th, we drove from our langley home to childrens hospital to see if we could get him the diagnosis and help he needed. It all was bad timing due to the holidays and doctors not being available. After talking with the emergencey doctors and councellers, they say that it's behavioural so they put him on medication. My wife and me don't believe it is all behavioural related. There are other things going. We took Nicholas to his pediartician to get the answers we are looking for. My son started to destroy the medical room. His pediatrician says that his hormones are through the roof and needs to be on meds to calm him so she prescribed him risperidone. The medication is having an effect but it is a very little amount at bedtime. It's helping him sleep but during the day, Nicholas still shows signs of irritability. He will be evaluated by a psychiatrist to see if the medication can be increased or maybe put him on another type of medication. My wife stays home with Nicholas 24/7 while I work my 12 hour shifts. As Nicholas is bigger and stronger, I am very afraid to leave him with his mom while I go to work. She won't be able to restrain him if he starts to get aggressive. We want to use the donations to cover any expenses we have including safe proofing the house to keep my son safe. During the time it takes to figure this out, I feel I need to take time off work to get this resolved and keep everyone safe from harm including Nicholas harming himself but can't afford to take the time off work as I am the bread winner and have a mortgage to be paid. I am asking you to please fund us so I can have the mortgage covered for a few months so I can take the time off work and not worry about the mortgage payment. We need to focus on getting my beautiful angel healthy again. Any amount is very much appriciated thank you.
