On December 29, 2022, Nicholas was diagnosed with ALL (Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia), at the age of 18 months. Prior to his diagnosis, he was scheduled to receive blood work for his 18 month check up. After his lab results were received, the pediatrician called to inform us that both hemoglobin levels & platelets were very low & recommended we take Nicholas over to the ER immediately. Nicholas never showed alarming symptoms prior to his diagnosis, besides getting sick every so often and having night sweats. These symptoms were mentioned to his pediatrician but we had been reassured that there was nothing to be concerned about. December 28, 2022, we entered the ER, the following day a bone marrow procedure was performed and the oncologist informed us Nicholas did in fact have blood cancer. Following his diagnosis, we spent the next 3 weeks in the hospital, the hospital staff quickly scheduled his surgery, which consisted of placing a very small port inside his skin. Once the port was surgically placed inside nicholas upper right chest, he began treatment for 29 days straight. The oncologist stated that Nicholas treatment would be an ongoing process for approximately 2.5 years. Since Nicholas diagnoses, he has received 2 bone marrow procedures, 10 lumbar punctures with chemo therapy, multiple IV injections, injections into the muscle, orally chemotherapy and antibiotics. In the beginning of the year,
Nicholas’s mom denied a part time position that she was offered in order to continue to stay at home with him and take him to his weekly clinic appointments for chemotherapy and monthly appointments to the hospital for his surgical procedures. During this rough transition into our lives, mom continued to make it a priority to return to school & had been accepted for the fall of 2023.

Currently Irvin (the father), is taking family leave from his full time position to stay at home to care for Nicholas and attend clinic appointments. Irvin is responsible for providing for his family and covering all expenses for Nicholas. Unfortunately, Irvin has missed countless number of work days that have been unpaid. Anything that is donated will be greatly appreciated.
