Nick Hund is a 23-year-old who was recently diagnosed with a rare type of bone cancer called Chordoma. Chordoma is a slow-growing cancer of tissue found inside the spine. It is diagnosed in just 1 in 1 million people per year, that is 300 people diagnosed every year.

About 2 months ago Nick underwent an x-ray for stomach complications, which have since then subsided. However, the x-ray revealed a mass growing on his sacrum which was found to be a large cancerous tumor. This was extremely distressing news for our family, but Nick has embraced this diagnosis with an abundance of positivity that we all greatly admire!

Nick has already begun various examinations and radiation treatment and is scheduled to have surgery this fall to remove the tumor fully. This procedure has about a 60% success rate which keeps us positive and his young age is in his favor as well! We want Nick to have a healthy long life after this hurdle and these surgeries are vital to ensure just that. In some cases, this type of tumor can return so we must consider the possibility for future surgeries. However, we have high hopes this will be a one-time surgery!

The cost of all these procedures and care has already begun to get very expensive, very quickly. The cost of his surgery and post-surgery care will also be extremely costly and we are trying our best to prepare for that. These surgeries can cost tens of thousands of dollars and we need to make sure that we are able to get Nick all the care that he needs.
