Hi, my name is Sherry Hale. I never expected to have to put together a request such as this; however, I was notified yesterday (on the 3 month anniversary of my husband’s death), that the life insurance company will not be honoring the face value of his life insurance policy. So now I need to pay for his funeral.
I was blessed to have him with me for 1,179 days more than I should have had because… On Valentine’s Day of 2020 my husband, Nick, called me at 11:36 am to tell me he had fallen 11 1/2’ from the load on his flatbed trailer and landed on his head. He was laying in the parking lot of a business, and he was paralyzed. The manager of the business had found him, called me and was holding his phone for him. He said he would have someone call me when he found out what hospital he was going to be at.
He broke C2 and C3. The doctor in the ER of Miami Valley Hospital said he was a miracle. A broken C2 is called a “hangman’s fracture “ and typically results in death as it is surrounded by all the nerves that control your breathing.
We spent 8 days in ICU, he worked so hard in physical and occupational therapy.
He was transferred to the Rehabilitation Unit in the hospital, and we spent the next few weeks with him working with the most amazing therapists !!
And then on March 12th, his therapist became extremely concerned when Nick could not only not take a step, but couldn’t move at all. He was rushed down for a new X-ray. The swelling in his neck had went down. He was again paralyzed.
A scheduled 5 hour surgery took 6 1/2 hours. They put a plate and screws from C3-C6. Then Rehab began again.
He was discharged April 2, 2020. We put in a garden together that summer.
And 9 months from the day of his surgery, he was baptized- the happiest day of his life. He told everyone who would list, and some who didn’t want to listen, that Jesus saved him the day he fell. It took many miracles to get us to Tennessee, but God made it happen.
We dealt with many issues and doctors over the next 3 years. On May 8th, at about 1 pm, we had a conversation about. He was going to take a nap. We told each other “I love you” and I went to the living room. A couple neighbors came by to check on him as he wasn’t answering his phone. Checked on him each time, and he was snoring. The third time I checked on him, at 7:23 pm he was gone.
He is no longer in pain and can walk perfectly now.
Thank you so much for any help you can provide.
