Hello to all my family and friends.
This is my nephew, Lewis Oldenbuttel of Broad Channel NY, aged 21. Lewis suffers from a rare genetic condition called tuberous sclerosis that causes benign tumors to grow on the brain, heart, kidneys and other vital organs. Those of you who know Lewis know that he has endured a great many surgeries and medical emergencies over the course of his young life, and that he and his family have faced these challenges with considerable grace.
On March 31, 2015, Lewis will be undergoing a kidney transplant; his father, Lewis Sr. (known to all his friends as “Louie”), will be supplying the kidney that will save his son’s life. This procedure is invasive for both father and son, with an expected recuperation period of six to eight weeks. While the costs of the surgery will be covered by insurance, Louie Sr.’s surgery is considered “elective,” and he will not be eligible for disability compensation during this recovery period. This amounts to a significant loss of income at an already difficult time.
Louie Sr. works in the construction trade and is the sole breadwinner for his family. He is also great guy and wonderful friend and neighbor who is always willing to help out a family in need. We’re hoping that folks in the community will come together, as we always do, to help his family out now. Click on the link to make a donation that will help ease their financial stress and let them all focus on healing and recovering from this life-saving surgery.
