Maxie is a 4 year old Maltese rescue dog.
Maxie has been diagnosed with a complicated, bilateral perineal hernia. This hernia results from the complete failure of the muscles of the pelvis, which means his abdominal contents (bladder, intestines, colon, prostate etc) have moved backwards and are pushing on the outside of his body. Max is unable to toilet without laxatives and is at serious risk of rupturing other internal organs or of his bladder becoming trapped in the hernia.
At the moment he is in the hospital but he desperately requires reparative surgery to fix the damage and to restore his quality of life before it gets even worse.
Unfortunately there is only one type of procedure capable of fixing this condition and it must be done by a veterinary specialist as soon as possible. My local vet is unable to do this procedure due to its complexity.
A wonderful veterinary specialist has come on board to assist us and has already generously offered a reduction to the surgery cost as a matter of welfare but we need help to make this happen for Maxie!
This special little boy has been through so much in his young life already. He has triumphed over abandonment, life in a shelter with complicated medical treatment to bring him back from neglectful condition. He has had rehabilitation to recover from fearful behaviours following a dog attack and lots of training to teach him how to be a normal, happy dog.
Max is a special little fluff ball with the biggest heart. He loves everyone he comes into contact with, greets them with a wag, hug, dance or lick and makes you feel like the best of friends.
This little boy deserves a chance to live the happy life that he's finally started. Please help us provide that for him!
