NHTA is committed to our members and the students of New Haven. We want to ensure that the learning conditions of our students are the best they could be: their learning conditions are our working conditions. We knew that there would be a financial cost to this strike. Every day we are losing wages, but we are firmly convinced we are fighting for our students, their classrooms, and this community. However, some of our members are making this sacrifice in the face of a multitude of hardships. There are those with life-saving medical costs, family emergencies, and extraordinary financial hardship.
We are asking for donations to help those who are standing up for students and education, but who have greater financial need. New Haven teachers will pay it forward in the classroom. We're asking for help to those in greatest need.
Because of your encouragement School Board member Sarabjit Cheema has publicly supported the state's neutral Fact Finding report as a basis for a fair settlement. Email her to thank her: firstname.lastname@example.org
The rest of the school board is remaining silent and abdicating their responsibility to provide oversight on their bargaining team. Email them encourage them to also endorse the neutral Fact Finding report.
Also, there are other public officials who are paying attention and expressing support for a fair settlement. This isn't a partisan issue, regardless of you political beliefs please email or call our local representatives and ask them to help resolve this crisis so teachers can go back into the classroom.
Note: This Strike Fund will be administered by the NHTA Budget Committee members: Michael Gardner (Treasurer and Chair), Victoria Jackson (High School Representative) Archie Sims (Middle School Representative) and Taia Barker (Elementary Representative). These funds will only be used for direct aid to teachers and not for strike operations.
