Both me and my sister are front line nurses working for the NHS fighting against this Covid-19 virus, when all this began I moved away from my family home as I knew I would be at risk, being out working in the community. Unfortunately the virus has gotten the better of me and last I week tested positive to Covid-19 and i am currently fighting against this, luckily responding well. My sister, is still being so brave being at work although it’s affecting her team both physically and mentally. We both know what it feels like to be missing home and the affects it has on the patients not being able to see their loved ones. Since becoming poorly I have been overwhelmed with the well wishes and support from everyone. My mam and dad too have had many people send their well wishes to them, it’s been heartbreaking for my parents to not be able to see me whilst being poorly. There is just one huge aspect we cannot get to grips with, and that’s the patients not being able to communicate with their families. Whether this be their daily chats, encouragement and well wishes or this is their final goodbyes with their families. I for one truly no how that feels and i am so lucky to have an iPhone to face time my family each day people in hospital or care homes are unable to do this.
My dad wants to help everyone out who is affected by this to so here is the idea...
This go fund me page is being set up, to raise money for iPads/tablets for Covid patients in both hospitals and care homes to be able to communicate with their families whilst fighting of this virus. Once all money is collected I will buy all iPads/tablets and get them delivered to where they are needed most. Proof of purchases will be shown.
These patients can include patients of all ages, end of life and patients who are frail/elderly. Due to the current situation they are not allowed visitors on the ward. Relatives also may not be able to visit their loved ones on end of life due to them also self isolating or being unwell. This will allow Patients to FaceTime their loved ones from their bedside in hospital, or care homes as sometimes this may be the last time they are able to communicate or even see their relative due to this terrible virus.
If anyone would be able to donate this would be greatly appreciated this gives the patients and their families a chance to communicate and give them that precious time that we have all in the past taken for granted. This is extremely difficult for the patients, just like it was difficult for me not being able to see my family, as a family we just want to give back, me and my dad just want to be able to give back and donate as much as possible to people who are suffering from this virus.
Thank you everyone, we are all in this together
