Help Brandi’s Transplant Journey

Donation protected
Hi everyone, My name is Judi and I am fundraising for my daughter, Brandi.  Brandi is a loving wife and mother of 3 children, Cayden (18), Aubri (9), and Greyson (3).  She was diagnosed with Polycystic Kidney Disease in 2018 during her first trimester of pregnancy with Greyson.

From the beginning she was put on high risk and was under the care of her OBGYN, a high risk pregnancy doctor and a nephrologist.  Brandi’s pregnancy was no easy road, as she developed pre-eclampsia very early on, as well as “Poly”, which put her in the hospital at 22 weeks where she remained until she delivered at 33.5 weeks.  While in the hospital, she developed gestational diabetes and her hemoglobin levels dropped and they brought in a hematologist.  She began receiving iron treatments through IV, Procrit injections, Lovenox, insulin injections and much more.

Every week Brandi made it through, her doctor would tell her that it was a blessing.  On the day of delivery, her doctor had said that her blood pressure through the night was not great so she had gone as far as she could go.  They prepped for a C-Section and she delivered on February 22, 2019.  Overall, Greyson was healthy and thriving, but spent 12 days in the NICU due to not being able to eat properly.  Brandi was discharged 5 days after delivery, while Greyson remained.

The day after Brandi was discharged, she was suffering from a very bad headache that brought her to tears and prompted her to go to the ER.  Upon arriving, they discovered that her blood pressure was severely high and she ended up having 2 seizures…..she did not wake up for almost 2 days.  When she awoke, her doctor had told her that she developed postpartum eclampsia, which is very very rare.  All this to say that her kidneys took a very big hit and she suffered some major unreversable tubal damage that caused a severe decline in kidney function.

Her Nephrologist was very optimistic that she would gain some function back, and she did, and remained stable for 3 years.  In May of 2022, we got the news that her kidney function had dropped below 20% and she was being referred for a kidney transplant.

Brandi remains in good spirits and is choosing to see this as a blessing to live a healthier life with her husband and 3 children.

We are raising funds to help the family with medical costs (Brandi will be responsible for her costs after insurance, as well as the donors costs), medication costs (insurance will only cover anti-rejection medication for up to 1 year only and she will need these for the rest of her life), travel and lodging costs before and after transplant (Brandi will be required to stay in the Dallas area for up to 6 weeks after surgery), and help to ensure children have the necessities they need at home while she and her husband will not be able to be with them for up to 4-6 weeks after surgery.
