I'm fundraising for this year's Nguku Festival Kulumindini (Elliott). This will be the third time this festival runs, showcasing some of the amazing local music talent and providing opportunities for language and culture to be passed on through intergenerational music groups learning and performing songs in local languages Mudburra and Jingulu and through bush medicine and carving workshops. Nguku means water in Mudburra, and the festival emphasises connection to country through language and culture.
Musicians from this region like Eleanor Jawurlngali, Ray Dimakarri Dixon and Harold Dalywaters have made a name for themselves nationally, yet rarely get to play for their own community, and this festival provides a chance for local people to hear the music of their own families and neighbours.
The festival is a collaboration between local community leaders and Barkly Regional Arts. While there is a lot of in kind support that goes towards putting this festival on, we are looking for help to fund paying musicians and workshop facilitators to be able to value the creative and cultural work that makes the festival happen. Please help us make this a great Nguku Festival Kulumindini 2025!
