The Separation and The Dream of Reunion
For 9 long years, my wife has not been able to embrace her parents. She hasn't seen her grandparents and brother in 7 years. Due to the devastating political and economic crisis in Venezuela, and the extreme poverty her family faces, they cannot come to the US, and we cannot safely travel there.
We are an American family of three, and this trip isn't a vacation—it is an essential reunion. My 3-month-old son and I have never met his maternal grandparents, great-grandparents, or cousins. We are hoping to raise funds to bridge the 700+ mile gap that separates our family and make this first meeting possible.
Life in Crisis: Why We Need Your Help
My wife’s family is currently living in extreme poverty in Venezuela. We send them money every month just to help them afford basic necessities like eggs, milk, and meat. We have personally purchased them a small refrigerator and a window air conditioner recently because their living conditions are so desperate. They cannot afford this reunion on their own.
Our plan is to travel to Cartagena, Colombia, and arrange for the safe transit of her family—a group of approximately 8-9 people—from Maracaibo to meet us there. Cartagena is the nearest safe and viable meeting point for this reunion, which is an 8 hour bus ride from Maracaibo.
Our Goal: Bringing 12 People Together for 7 Days
We are aiming to raise $4,000 to cover the entire cost of bringing this family together for one precious week. Every dollar donated will go directly toward the logistics of this reunion. I've already paid for the flight and logistics for Dari and me and our baby. Any funds donated will be used for Dari's family travel, food and lodging.
Here is how the funds will be used:
$500-$600: Family Bus Transportation (Round Trip)
Covers the multi-stage bus travel for 8–9 family members from Maracaibo, Venezuela, to Cartagena, Colombia, and their safe return home.
$1,800 - $3,000: 7-Day Vacation Rental
Covers a safe, spacious accommodation in Cartagena for the entire reunited group of 11-12 people (our family of three plus her family) for one week.
$1,000 - $1,500: Food and Supplies
Covers groceries, meals, and basic supplies for all 11-12 people for the entire week, allowing the family to focus on being together.
$500: Contingency and Local Transport
Covers local taxis, small emergencies, and any unexpected reunion costs.
The Most Important Meeting
Imagine the moment: Our son's first introduction to his grandparents. A mother finally embracing her family after seven years of fear and worry. Your donation won't be paying for a vacation—it will be funding a chance for a family to feel whole again after years of separation and struggle.
Please help us give my wife, our son, and her parents this long-awaited, essential week of peace and love. Thank you for making this reunion possible.
We love you.
